Info about Paintball
Paintball
Paintball is a game played either in team or individually where players compete against each other with the purpose to eliminate competitors by shooting them with some capsules that contain paint. These are named paintballs and here is where the name of the game comes from, while the device that shots them is called a paintball market. Paintball is also played in organized championships and tournaments, having worldwide leagues, professional players and teams. What is more, paintball is also used in army as extra practice besides military training.
Paintball can be played outside or inside depending on the available field which can be of variable sizes. The field can and should be enriched with artificial terrain to make the game more exciting. When it comes to rules, these range widely and can be established by players before starting the game. However, most commonly, the purpose includes capturing a flag, attacking and defending different strategic areas, elimination of the players from the opposite team or finding and capturing various hidden objects.
In 1976, inspired by the stories about buffalo hunt in Africa told by Charles Gaines and taking some elements from the short story “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, Hayes Noel, Bob Gurnsey and Charles Gaines created a game where players will stalk each other just like during a real hunting party. In 1981, they used a “Nel-spot 007” pistol that was used to mark trees with paint to shot each other. The first game was played in New Hampshire and it was a “capture the flag” game. The game quickly became famous in all America and the initial players also made some serious profit from their idea.
The equipment necessary for playing paintball depends on which type of game the players choose to play and also on their budget. However, three pieces of equipment are of basic need: a paintball marker also called a paintball gun with an attached loader or hooper, paintballs which are spherical capsule made of gelatin and containing a non-toxic and water-soluble dye, and a mask or goggles that cover completely the eyes, ears mouth and nostrils in order to protect players from paintballs. Optional equipment includes pod packs and pods that come in handy especially if players play with semi-automatic paintball markers, pads that will protect the player from the eventual hits cause by jumping, running kneeling, sliding and crawling on the field and apparel that is made from a durable material and contains long pant to get some extra protection from paint balls.
Paintball is a very dynamic game that involves a lot of movement, but also some strategic qualities. It recreates the adrenaline of a real battle, but adds a lot of fun. However, paintball is not for the less courageous as being audacious is extremely important here. Having more alternative ways of playing, woodsball, scenarioball and speedball, paintball is an ideal game to be played in teams as large as possible. If you decide to play paintball, there is one quality you must have: you cannot be afraid of getting dirty.
